Adam Missert Learned Healthy Lifestyle Habits as Part of Univera Healthcare's Fun 2B Fit Program

Buffalo, NY - Adam Missert, 11, had an unusual request for his birthday this year: a fruit basket.
"That's what he wanted so we got a great, big fruit basket for him. He loved it," explained the proud mother of three boys, Lisa Missert.
Adam participated in all three components of Univera Healthcare's Fun 2B Fit program in his elementary school, including healthy taste testing, a physical activity lesson and a fieldtrip to a local grocery store where he learned about, and sampled, a variety of healthy foods.
"I really liked the Fun 2B Fit taste testing," said Adam, which is where he first sampled the Fun 2B Fit Tropical Go Bananas Smoothie. That taste testing was three years ago and today, strawberry-banana-yogurt smoothies are the favorite snack amongst all members of the Missert household.
In addition to participating in the program, Adam receives positive reinforcement at home.
"I make a point of talking to my kids about food choices and eventually it sinks in," says Lisa Missert.
Health and wellness activities are ingrained in Lisa Missert's everyday life: she works part time as a pediatric nurse, teaches group fitness classes, and is an active member of the Health and Wellness Committee at Adam's school. But being busy doesn't keep her from making healthy choices a priority in the lives of her children.
"I believe parents and adults need to lead by example and make healthy food choices and exercise regularly. Univera Healthcare's Fun 2B Fit program gives parents and kids the tools they need to make healthy decisions."
Fun 2B Fit is a school-based initiative that encourages children and their families to make healthier food choices by trying new foods, increasing their level of physical activity, shopping for healthy foods and preparing meals together. There are more than 9,000 students at 40 schools in the Western New York area participating in Fun 2B Fit.
Fun 2B Fit has been honored with two awards for Publication Excellence (APEX Awards), two international MarCom Creative Awards, a Civic Empowerment Award from the Greater Buffalo All-America City committee, an Award of Distinction from the Video Communicator Awards, a World Wide Web Health Award, and the American Academy of Pediatrics newsletter CQ, a national publication, acclaimed Univera Healthcare for this innovative program.
Fun 2B Fit program partners include Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., Body Shaping By Sandy, the Healthy Community Alliance, and Lifetime Health Medical Group.
